Common Welding Methods For Steel Structures
Dec 09, 2023
Steel structure is a building structure composed of steel, which is widely used because of its advantages of high strength, corrosion resistance, fatigue resistance and so on.
Welding is a common connection method in the manufacture and installation of steel structures. Steel structure welding is to weld the steel to make it a whole in order to achieve the purpose of strengthening and connecting.
The following describes the common welding methods in steel structures.
1. Arc Welding
Arc welding is a common welding method of steel structure, by generating an arc to melt and connect the welding rod with the workpiece. This welding method has the advantages of fast speed, high connection strength, and is suitable for large steel structures.
Common arc welding methods include manual arc welding, submerged arc welding, ammonia arc welding and so on.
2. Gas Welding
Gas welding is a welding method that provides heat energy through the combustion of hydrogen and oxygen. During the welding process, hydrogen and oxygen are mixed together to create a high temperature flame that heats the welded joint to a molten state, thus achieving welding. Gas welding is suitable for the connection of thin plates and small steel structures.
3. Cladding Welding
Cladding welding is a welding method in which metal powder, wire, or sheet metal is heated to a molten state and then sprayed onto the welded joint to form a coating. This welding method can enhance the wear resistance, corrosion resistance and high temperature resistance of welded joints.
4. Friction Welding
Friction welding is a welding method in which two pieces of steel are rubbed together by high-speed rotation, so that they melt and fuse together. Friction welding has the advantages of fast welding speed, high strength of welded joints and no porosity in welded joints. It is suitable for the manufacture of large steel structures such as aircraft, cars and trains.
5. Laser Welding
Laser welding is a way of welding using the high energy density of the laser beam, through the instantaneous heating of the laser beam, so that the welding area is melted and joined together. It has the advantages of fast welding speed, high weld quality and small heat affected zone, and can realize high-precision welding.
The above are common welding methods in steel structures. Different welding methods are suitable for different steel structures and welding needs, and choosing the right welding method is crucial to ensure the quality and stability of steel structures.
