Fire Protection Methods For Steel Structures

1. Steel structure outer layer protection. That is to say, the protection method of forming a protective layer by using cast-in-place concrete wrapping or modifying the mortar on the surface of the steel structure. The cast-in-place solid concrete cladding is usually reinforced with steel mesh or steel bars to restrain and shorten the cracks to ensure the strength of the shell. The mortar can be lime cement or gypsum mortar, frog stone mortar, or mixed with perlite and asbestos. At the same time, the outer cladding can also be made of perlite, asbestos, gypsum or asbestos cement, and light concrete into prefabricated panels, which are fixed on the steel structure with adhesives, nails, and bolts.
2. Cooling a hollow steel structure, that is, the protection method of water-filled circulation cooling in the steel structure is the most effective protection method against fire. This method enables the steel structure to maintain a lower temperature in a fire, and the water circulates in the steel structure to absorb the heat of the material itself. water. Paint the steel structure fireproof paint on the outside of the components to protect the components. When heated, these materials expand to form a proper protective layer on the surface of the steel structure, which greatly improves the safety of the steel structure in a fire. This method has the advantages of good fireproof and heat insulation performance, construction is not restricted by the geometric shape of the steel structure, usually does not need to add auxiliary equipment, the coating quality is light, and there is a certain beautiful decoration effect, which belongs to the modern leading fire technical measures.
3. The use of weathering steel. Refractory and weathering steel has excellent high-temperature resistance and atmospheric corrosion resistance. In China, it is used as a substitute for Q235 steel and Q345 steel which are widely used in current buildings. connection function and other functions. The use of fire-resistant and weathering steel can eliminate or reduce coating, which can reduce the use of fire-resistant coatings and fire-resistant cladding, thereby reducing pollution and greatly saving maintenance costs; other steels with good thickness can be thinned, saving more than 30% of overall costs. This kind of fire resistance and weather resistance is also permanent and self-healing, that is, whether the steel is processed or cut, or after the surface is rubbed or caught in service, its weather resistance and fire resistance can remain unchanged. This is impossible with ordinary steel and additional protective layers.
